Description: 3 1/4 " Male-  Bright red throat and a black chin, shiny metallic green body. Under parts are white-ish. Female doesn't have the red throat, and are duller in color, a  buffy green. Both the male and female tails are forked.

Sound: Not yet available

Food Source: You can see hummingbirds at nectar feeders drinking sugar water. One part sugar, to four parts water. Do not use red dye. They also enjoy small insects, and plants such as  coral bells, purple Datura, Four O clocks, and more.

Nesting Habits: The female gets busy building the nest on a deciduous tree or shrub 9-30' above ground. She is a master builder and uses cobweb and plant down, such as the fluff from catkins and cattails, as nesting materials. She cements these materials together securing the nest  to the branch with sticky spider silk. She then disguises the outside of the nest with bits of lichen and sticks. This gives the nest the appearance of a natural  tree knot. She then shapes the inside of the nest with her body.

She generally lays two tiny white eggs no larger than a pea.
