Swallow:
Description: 5 3/4" Blue-green glossy on head, back and wings, white on stomach, chest, cheeks and throat. White cheek patch doesn't go above bill or eye. Sound: Not yet available anyone have one? Food Source: These are very beneficial birds who love insects, and will eat in flight. Commonly seen following a person mowing a lawn stirring up the insects in the grass. Also seen near water bodies or even a small pond skimming the water. Nesting Habits: Will nest in bird houses, birdhouse gourds, or naturally. One fellow even wanted to nest in an old water pump. Tree swallows lay 3-6 small white eggs. Additional Note: These little fellows are extremely brave. Last year I was able to hold up feathers at nesting time and they would swoop down and grab them from my fingers. Extremely fun for the kids to see.
