Woodpecker:
Description: 6 3/4" The Downy and Hairy woodpeckers are commonly mistaken. One very large difference is the size. The Downy woodpecker is much smaller than the Hairy. Downys have a white back, white chest and underside. The tail feathers in flight are white black white. Wings are generally black with very many white dots and streaks. Head is also white and black with male Downy having a red patch on back of head. Sound: Not yet available.. anyone have one? Food Source: Downy's love suet cakes or any kind and woodpecker cakes. They are quite tame while visiting the feeders, I had one little guy almost plow into me as I was filling the suet cake feeder. Downy's will also eat insects and berries. The also devour peanut butter Nesting Habits: Will nest in trees or birdhouses simulating a dead tree filled with sawdust. Eggs are sub elliptical to oval, smooth and glossy. color is white.
